Woad as it was used at the time, was mainly destined for textile dyeing and required the knowledge of the Woad Master.
The woad ball process did not allow the possibility to produce a pure pigment. Only a small part was rescued on the surface of the Woad dyer's vat: the famous ''Fleurée de Pastel'' or "Flower of Woad".
Today, with our industrials partners, the CATAR (CRITT Agro-ressources of Toulouse) for the research and the CAPA for the farming of the Woad, we have an industrial unit able to process up to 20 tons of leaves per day.
We are now capable of manufacturing art and decorative products as well as producing textile for clothes and upholstry designers. We continue our research for the cosmetic and automobile industries. | |
Textile development
Since January 2001, the "Bleu de Lectoure" has set up a unique industrial thread dyeing process with the partnership of local dyers and industrial weavers in the Midi-Pyrénées.
The long term goal is to produce the first fabrics with a natural pigment, to create a range of clothes in the authentic pure "Denim weave" as well as fabrics for the European and international textile market. |
